Wouldn't this actually cause the beverage to cool significantly faster? While, granted, it'll keep your mitts from getting scalded, it seems as though the additional surface area on the outside would cause heat to expel quicker. Feel free to correct me with science if I'm wrong here.
Well, yes. But it looks like the surface area has only increased by, say, 25%. All ceramics are pretty good insulators anyway... but the trade-off here, for those who like to slowly sip their beverages... is that you might get a 25% cooler beverage.
